Jane Fonda Says Jennifer Lopez Never Apologized for 'Monster-in-Law' On-Set Injury
Jane Fonda is looking back at working with Jennifer Lopez. On Thursday (March 23), the 85-year-old star appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show where she recalled filming the 2005 rom-com Monster-in-Law with Jennifer, 53. Jane and Drew talked about the moment in the move where Jane and Jennifer go back and forth slapping each other across the face, and Jane revealed that one of Jennifer‘s slaps left her with a cut above her eye. “The thing that comes to mind right away is we have a slapping scene. I slap her, she slaps me,” Jane explained. “Well Jennifer — as per Jennifer — she had this enormous diamond ring. And so, when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye, my eyebrow.” Jane then claimed, “She’s never apologized.” However, back in 2019, Jennifer shared a YouTube video where she broke down the scene, saying it was “one of the most fun scenes I’ve ever done,” but did admit that she was “mortified” that she injured Jane. “I was like…so sorry,” Jennifer recalled. “She really really went for it, and so did I, and then I punched her in the eye by mistake — right there — ouch.” “We talked about how we were going to do this over and over again. I was so afraid to hit Jane Fonda in the face or hurt her in any way,” Jennifer continued. “She was so brazen and [said] like, ‘Just hit me, don’t worry about it.’ ” Jennifer remembered saying to Jane, “I don’t want to hurt you,” and then “the next thing you know [Jane] really went for it on one of those slaps.” “The scene took on a life of its own,” Jennifer added. “I just remember afterward Jane had a blood blister right at the top of her eye. My nail, like, went up into her eye…She didn’t care. She’s such a gangster bitch. I just love her.” In another recent interview, Jane opened up about some of parenting regrets.
